News you can use
Americans use 67 tons of newspaper each year. That’s a lot of baseball standings and stock listings piling up. The good news (pun intended) is that newspaper is recyclable.
But since newsprint can only be recycled three to five times before it breaks down, it’s still better to use it a time or two for other purposes before pitching it into the recycling bucket. Here are some uses:

• It’s almost summer, which means it’s almost camping season. Don’t get caught in the woods without the most abundant campfire kindling there is
– newspaper.

• If your spring spruce-up calls for any painting, use old newspapers as “drop cloths” to protect flooring and furniture.

• Stuff newspaper into leather shoes and bags to maintain their shape. Or stuff it into wet shoes to dry and deodorize.

• Newspaper is quite possibly the world’s best packing material. Use it to protect breakables when moving, or when shipping fragile gifts next holiday season.

• Newsprint has numerous uses in the garage and yard. Place it beneath cars to prevent oil stains; use it as a funnel when pouring nuts and bolts back into containers; put it on the windshield to prevent icing; place it over plants to protect from frost; and toss shredded pieces into the compost pile.
